The Importance of Patience in Waiting for God

“Stand still” – keep the posture of an upright man, ready for action, expecting further orders, cheerfully and patiently awaiting the directing voice; and it will not be long ere God shall say to you, as distinctly as Moses said it to the people of Israel, “Go forward.” – Charles Spurgeon
As Christians, we often struggle with waiting for God's direction in our lives. We want to know what God's plan is for us right now, and we want to know it as soon as possible. However, God often calls us to wait patiently for His direction. He wants us to stand still, keep an upright posture, and expect further orders. It is through patient waiting that God can speak to us and direct our steps.
We see this concept throughout the Bible, from the story of Abraham waiting for a son to the Israelites wandering in the desert for forty years before entering the Promised Land. In each of these situations, God's timing was perfect, even if it didn't align with the human desire for immediate answers.
The importance of patience in waiting for God's direction cannot be overstated. Impatience can lead us to make hasty decisions and take actions that are not in line with God's plan for our lives. It can cause us to miss out on opportunities that God has for us or to pursue paths that ultimately lead to disappointment and frustration.
We must remember that the waiting period is not a time of idleness or inactivity. It is a time of preparation and growth, as we learn to trust God more deeply and develop the character traits necessary for His plans for our lives. We can use this time to deepen our relationship with God, study His Word, and serve others.
Ultimately, the key to patience in waiting for God's direction is trust. We must trust that God knows what is best for us, and that His timing is perfect. We must trust that He will guide us in the right direction, even if it is not the path we would have chosen for ourselves. And we must trust that He is always with us, even in the midst of uncertainty and waiting.
Waiting for God's direction requires patience, trust, and an upright posture ready for action. It is not always easy, but it is essential if we want to follow God's plan for our lives. As we wait, let us seek God's voice and direction, prepare ourselves for His plans, and trust in His perfect timing and guidance.
